Purposes, styles, conventions and techniques of Music Videos

Introduction –

For my assignment I have been asked by my lecturer to create a blog post identifying the purposes, styles, conventions and techniques of various types of music videos.  The Music videos that I have chosen to research is ‘Don’t be so hard on your self’ – Jess Gylnne, ‘Tonight we live forever’ – Union J and ‘Levels’ – by Nick Jonas.

Task One

What are the purposes of Music Videos?

The purpose of music videos mainly evolves around making money and promotional purposes etc. From creating a music video the styles, techniques and conventions are the three main parts of making the music video or artist stand out and appealing.

Styles, techniques and conventions are good in promotional purposes as it can attract a bigger audience approach. To promote the music video they would feature them on different social networking sites like Face Book and Twitter or on advertisements before a song on You Tube or on television too.

Extension of Income
Another main purpose for music videos is the source of income. To make money they would use similarities of the promotion stages for the video on Face Book .etc. They can also create money by featuring their music in films or TV programmes. for example; ‘Immortals’ by ‘Fall out boy’ which was in the movie ‘Big Hero 6’.

Extension of outlets 
Too extend their income value they would sell their music to many different shopping outlets 

Task Two

Styles of Music Videos

As you might already know identifying the style of a music video is mainly looking at how the artist made it. The different styles for a music video can be from the genre, if it’s an animation, parody’s or also impressionist. Using different styles in  music videos is a good way in showing their audience what kind of artist or group they are etc. For example if they were a Gothic and Rock group they would wear dark clothing and sing in a more scary manor like the boy band 'Black Veil Brides'.
